Quick answer
Samantha: The Next Chapter is a hardcover book that continues Samantha Parkington's story, designed for fans of American Girl's 18" doll characters who enjoy reading and imaginative play.
What makes this book different from the original Samantha stories?
The original Samantha books by Valerie Tripp were set in 1904 and ended with Samantha moving to New York. This new hardcover picks up after those events, giving readers a fresh adventure while staying true to the character's historical setting and personality. It's a standalone story, so you don't need to have read every original book to enjoy it.
Who is this book best suited for?
The book is ideal for readers ages 8 and up who already love Samantha or are curious about American Girl historical characters. Younger children may enjoy having it read aloud, but the vocabulary and chapter length are aimed at independent readers. If your child prefers modern stories, the historical setting might feel different from other doll-focused books.
How does the book encourage imaginative play with dolls?
Because the story features Samantha as a character your child already knows from the doll, reading the book naturally leads to acting out scenes, dressing the doll in period outfits, and creating new adventures. The hardcover format also makes it a nice keepsake for collectors who want to expand their American Girl library.
