Quick answer
The Summer McKinny™ Doll, Journal & Accessories set is the 2026 Girl of the Year collection from American Girl. It includes a 18-inch doll, a themed journal, and several accessories designed for creative storytelling.
What makes this set different?
Each year, American Girl selects a Girl of the Year doll with a unique story and personality. For 2026, Summer McKinny comes with a journal and accessories that tie directly into her narrative, encouraging kids to write their own adventures. This is not just a standalone doll—it is a storytelling kit.
What is not included?
The set does not include additional outfits, furniture, or a pet. If you want extra clothing or a playset for Summer McKinny, those are sold separately. The journal and accessories are the main focus here.
Decision rules for the Summer McKinny set
- Check the age range: This set is designed for children ages 8 and up who enjoy creative writing and role-play. Younger children may need help with the journal activities.
- Consider the play style: If the child prefers dressing up dolls or using playsets, the journal and accessories may be less engaging. For a child who loves to write and imagine stories, this set is ideal. Look for extra outfits or a playset if the child's main interest is fashion or dollhouse play.
- Compare with other American Girl dolls: The Summer McKinny set costs USD 119.99 (catalog comparison price USD 169.00), which is a discount from the suggested retail. Other 18-inch dolls without the journal and accessories are typically less expensive. Decide if the storytelling extras are worth the price. For a budget-friendly option, a basic doll without accessories may be a better fit.
